COFFEE BACKGROUND
The micro-region Pântano, where Fazenda Rio Brilhante sits, has well-defined seasons and consistent seasonal rain: ideal conditions for pulped-natural coffees. This process removes the cherries’ skin but leaves most of the mucilage. Drying the beans with this pulp is a middle ground between washed and natural processing. It highlights the coffee’s natural sweetness and produces a lovely aromatic cup. This micro-lot, named Limão Rosa (pink lemon), offers more acidity than typical coffees from Brazil.
Founder Inácio Urban has grown Rio Brilhante to an impressive 1,600 hectares over the last 40 years. The farm is divided into 45 sections, each representative of a unique terroir and micro-climate. In 2006, Inácio’s children joined their father in managing the farm — continuing the family’s work while bringing fresh energy and innovation. In 2020, Rio Brilhante won the Ethics and Traceability Award, honoring the farm’s commitments to their people, to preserving the environment, and to responsible agribusiness.
