Spoon are a relatively safe choice among Blueprint staffers. That’s in no way to say they make boring music. On the contrary, they present hum-along songs that border pop and garage sounds. On “They Want My Soul,” Spoon presents another round of rhythmic, interesting tunes. Singer Britt Daniel is as playful and confident as ever as he departs “Transference’s” rather analog tones for a mix of electronic keyboard sounds, jangly guitars, and Spoon’s ever-present, grooving rhythm section.
