ABOUT THE COFFEE PEOPLE ZINE

The Coffee People Zine celebrates the creativity of the coffee community. Featuring writing and photography by those in and around the coffee community for those who love and live coffee.

ISSUE 21 NOTES

FIRE: Roasting, passion, anger, alchemy, burnout – FIRE can mean so many things within the context of the coffee industry. This issue explores it all, with submissions by creative coffee professionals from around the world. We go further into the flame with 7 feature articles (the most of any issue ever!) on topics of being a traveling punk musician, union busting and perseverance, coffee’s relationship to addiction, a roaster’s story of stoking their small yet resilient fire, coffee as morning alchemy, a warming climate, and functional fitness for coffee roasters.

This issue also features an extended Coffee People Music / Roaster’s Edition, which links to the curated Spotify playlist with 23 songs by roasters and folks who work in roasteries. 

ISSUE 18 NOTES

COMPLEX: What is complexity, and how does it relate to coffee? This issue features COMPLEX work by a variety of artists around the world. There are also 6 (yes SIX!) commissioned articles in this zine connecting the COMPLEX theme to coffee, creativity, and community. From drinking coffee black as a way to process grief, to an exploration into the expectation to be creative, to an historical and personal look at Filipino coffee farmers in Hawai’i, the variety within these pages is truly expansive and vast. 

ISSUE 17 NOTES

FLORAL: ALL THE FLOWERS!!! This zine is filled with florality – from aroma notes in coffee to big burst bouquets to flirting with the flowery language of flowers and coffee. This zine includes four commissioned articles/essays with interpretations on what FLORAL can mean, a link to Coffee People Music / Volume 11, a list of Coffee/Flower Shops, a story about how coffee producers are using beekeeping to diversify and strengthen their farms, as well as the usual vibe – submissions of art, poetry, photography, writing, illustrations, and creations by coffee people around the world.
If you’re feeling petals, pomp, and pops of color, this zine is for you.

ISSUE 16 NOTES

BRIGHT: This zine is filled with brightness – from acidic flavor notes to connecting with others over a coffee to finding balance in the Vernal Equinox. This zine includes three commissioned articles about different forms of brightness, as well as the usual vibe – submissions of art, poetry, photography, writing, illustrations, and creations by coffee people around the world.
